kill list.

how do people look at these: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2016/12/07/world/asia/rodrigo-duterte-philippines-drugs-killings.html?tp=i-H43-A3-3zU-UsO11-1y-2qdcR-1c-Urwre-5bT3n

I find it so incredibly disturbing. I just can't. does that make me a delicate liberal flower?
I think it shows that you understand that those are real people on the other side of the photos. I don't like looking at that stuff either. I still remember vividly way back in the early days of the internets when that American news reporter (I think..) was beheaded and they released video of it. I wish I had never watched that.

I hate some of the stuff that I have seen online, as it desensitizes you. I have a feeling in a "worst case" scenario it will help me just move forward and get shit done (nasty car accident for example), but damn if it doesn't make you feel cold to things.
It also makes you human if it bothers you. If it doesn't I'd be concerned.

Used to watch that stuff when the internets just came out cause it was kinda exciting when youre like 15 or some shit, but now i just look away.
Coworker wanted to show me an image of the attack in Stockholm a few days ago, (we were working a few blocks away from where it happened) and when i asked him what it was he said "Its one of the people that was hit by the car and he got split in half."
I told him id rather not see it and he looked at me like i was some kind of freak.

Go figure...

I've had conversations about this with a few people, namely the girlfriend. For as long as I can remember, I've been somewhat obsessed with viewing images and video of all sorts of devastation, suffering and cruelty. Not obsessed to the point where it's in the spank-bank, but I can't not see it if I know it exists. You do get desensitized, but even still I've seen some things that made my stomach turn. Why view it? My thoughts:

1) I'm not sick or fucked in the head, just curious. It's a natural human trait.
2) As Stoney alluded to, part of me hopes seeing such things desensitizes/"prepares" me enough that if I were in a situation (car accident, machinery accident, etc), I'm less likely to vomit/faint and more likely to be able to help. Not sure how well that works, as I've fortunately haven't been in such a situation.
3) Makes you appreciate the fucking golden life we all on this site have. The type of stuff you see people have to endure on a daily basis puts things in perspective pretty quick. The shipment of your pretty little bike part getting delayed sure seems pretty OK considered your brother or sister didn't step on a landmine this morning.

I totally get that and Im not judging anyone who enjoys a good trainwreck.
And Ive seen my share of nasty shit online and irl and I like tho think I have points number 2 and 3 down.

But personally speaking, the curiousity kind of faded away after seeing enough of these things and I now think if something could add any kind of negative energy to my day Id rather just avoid it.

By the time you climb past the third level you're above the trees and it gets windy. We climbed up the inside. Then repelled down. I was the only one to repel down the outside away from the wind. 150 year old rusty bits of metal will fuck you up when the wind sends you into it.

Rappel. Repel is what happens when you splash on some Axe.

Thank god you were smart enough to figure that out. We are not likely to have that problem again. I gave away my climbing stuff about 10 years ago just for that very reason.... Stupid is stoopid no matter how you spell it.....
