What trail bike tire casings don't suck?

The tires worked well in wet Nisene loam
Forgot where you were. I'm sure MM is great in the sandy So Cal conditions. Random side note, I really like the DHF for a rear tire in sandy conditions if it's not too steep. It drifts so predictably and just keeps searching for traction even when it's going sideways.

Did you ride Nisene Marks recently? Which trails did you ride? I love it down there. Drop a line next time you head that way.

Yep the DHF is my fav all round tire going back a long time... it’s just not optimum for my local stuff.

We rode the usual “social” trails at Nisene.. the bacony bermy ones.

@slyfink I've been on the Michelin Enduro since late last season.
I was hoping for an improved WildRockr2 but this aint it.

Front is solid but gets vague at speed in hard conditions due to knob spacing and compound.
Epic grip in softer conditions though.
Monster trucks over rocks/roots, great braking, perfect size and zero flats.
Clears mud well and rolls surprisingly quick for what it is.
Get the magi-x compound if you buy one, not the gum-x I have.

Rear was meh.
Odd casing that squirmed under hard compressions and mine died on 3rd ride via a sidewall puncture.
I plugged it and rode for another 2 months.
Finding ideal pressure was hard and I don't think I ever got it 'right', which I blame on the weird casing feel.
Good climbing traction, didn't pack up in wet loam like WR2s did, but side knobs were undercut/worn very fast imo.
I'm happier with the e13 that replaced it fwiw.

IMO an improved WR2 would simply be a slightly wider WR2. :D

Run the 2.35 out back in the Gum-X with a 2.5 Magi-X up front.

Fucking Michelin. :rofl:
Exactly and ditch the enlongated center knobs for something that clears/penetrates soil better (like the e13).
I'm probably just going to go back to WR2s once the trails dry up.

So goodyear makes bike tires eh?
Any thought as to why there are side knobs in the right side of the tire?

Turns out goodyear does not in fact, make bike tires.



Actually that newton doesn't look too bad.
Just put a Newton on the front of the Honzo an hour ago, will take it out for a hoon tomorrow morning.... Mud, wet roots, rocks, techy grade5 trails. Should be a good 1st test.

I would prefer if Goodyear did not in fact make tires and simply slapped their logo on proven CST/Maxxis compounds and knob layouts.

Yeah, the problem with those giant Goodyear logos is there's no "run the white lettering inside" option on bikes. :(

Ugh just think how successful a MTB version of BFG TA K0s would be... ;(

The riding conditions on the first day consisted of super dry, powdery clay dust with pieces of shale rock on the packed bike park surface. The tires had great traction in the loose, blown out trails when aired down a couple of psi. But when I rode on hardpack jump trails, I found that the tire had a tendency to roll in corners when pushed hard, due to the tires’ high volume.

I hate mountainbikers.

So so much.

Well I decided to go out on a limb and got some 29x2.6 Vee Flow Snaps. They're apparently being marketed as Ebike tires since it has Ebike printed on them. It also has something called Synthesis which I think is some external sidewall reinforcement.

The casing seems to be close to a true 2.5" in width and the lugs measure true to size. Casing is a little lighter than a double down base on feel.

Does the casing suck? I'm afraid that I'm not going to be able to make a determination on that. Two early spring New England trail rides in and the side knobs are showing some concerning wear signs after probably only 16 miles max over the weekend. I'm concerned I'm not going to hit even 40 miles on trails before needing to check in on warranty. If I do, I can't imagine how they would last even a day at a pike park or riding DH trails......
