granted it wasnt fantastic. it was completely different than his other work.
the 12 years b/w FMJ and Eyes Wide Shut did change his style a bit tho

Eyes wide shut wasnt my favorite, nor was Barry Lyndon, but Kubrick's work is phenomenal to say the least, which im sure you can agree

he also help pioneer new camera equipment while filming Lyndon:

I did look over the Wiki page about Barry Lyndon.

I have to admit it was a wonderfully shot film, although if I had to pick a period piece, it would most certainly be The Duelists, Ridley Scott's first film.

Kubrick's films are certainly the best, and the most wide ranging.

One thing I thought when I saw Eyes Wide Shut was whether Kubrick had every seen pornography before. These "controversial" sex scenes were about as interesting a cinemax soft core movie.

I owe kubrick a punch in the mouth for eyes wide shut. Even the title was stupid. One of the few movies I couldn't get through... and I watch crap too!

A horribly great movie: Straight To Hell!

I saw it right after Gladiator, a horrible movie.

The Duelists have all the elements of Gladiator except the stupid ones.

well you better kill yourself because Kubrick has been dead since 1999...right before the movie came out.

did you see shaun of the dead? what did you think of that?
Exactly. I saw Shawn of the Dead and liked it. It was new. It was funny. And wow! British! I like the original The Office, I laugh at Norwegian Beaver Cheese, I even like Little Britain, Blackadder, etc...

That's the thing, there was nothing subtle or new about Hot Fuzz. It was the same joke as Shaun of the Dead. Look at the meek little wimpy Brit in the completely backward setting! Something's up around here! Let's see what unfolds!

And it felt 3 hours long. The punchline wasn't a punch at all. It was a friendly shoulder punch, followed my a girlslap, followed by a poke to the chest, then to another to the shoulder, and another, and another, and another and zzzzzzzzz....where'd I park?

yeah, i can see where you are with that. it does kinda fall in to the "cute" category more than the "clever" category.
