You just need to take ownership of the drive in your new computer.
To Do This (assuming your on windows xp):
1) Control panel, Folder Options
2) View Tab, Scroll all the way to the bottom, uncheck "Simple File Sharing". This will give you advanced security settings.
3) Right click the drive...

While generally this is correct, it does not apply in this scenario. The reason being is that by default, excel uses the 1900 date format, which does not allow negative times. In order to properly display negative times you must change it to the 1904 format. To do this:
