I'm really forward to the race this year. Between being in better shape, hopefully getting a good night's sleep the night before, and hopefully not having all kinds of intestinal problems, I am expecting myself to do much better.
I believe the key is hydration, food and staying away from those smelly blue plastic potties ;)

I'm getting pressured to do the 24 hours of Big Bear Lake (Former 24 of Snowshoe) instead of Dalton. I'm pushing back but it looks like I'm losing my support again.:(

I've heard that new course kicks ass. Have you ridden it before?

BOOOOOO! Are they the same weekend?
Adjacent weekends. Participating in two 24 events in a row is a rather bad idea. Hell, doing one completely shuts down your immune system for a while.

I still plan on doing Dalton though.

I have not. It is a regular venue for the West Virginia MTB series, and yes it is supposed to kick but. Not the mud bog that is Snowshoe.

it's great to be on your bike & be out for a ride but don't forget, just putting random miles on your bike is not exactly the best way to train

No doubt its fun to putz around but to really train most rides need a purpose, be it endurance, leg strength, pushing your cardio to a new threshold, long slow distance.....or sprints. Keep each workout with a focus!

I think the 1st person that should listen to my advice, is me! ha-ha :D

The most important thing about training is having fun, if that means putzing around on the bike, do it. Even a half hour at low intensity does something for you.

For tracking purposes logging miles doesn't mean much though. 10 miles on the road is 10X easier than 10 miles on muddy tight single track. I just keep track of the hours I put in.

Put in 30 hours in the last two weeks :dead:

I agree w/having fun

I havent done squat in the last week - damn crappy weather & I feel unmotivated to go to the gym

if you ride the same places often a mileage/time log is great to see if you are improving any, and if not - its time to make some changes to what you're doing

I've been having fun with a new watch that I bought off of Acadian in the the buy sell forum. It has a built in altimeter. I can look at my rate of climb and compare it to past performace. The cool thing about it is the climb does not have to be the same. I can also estimate power output by the climb rate. 60feet/min = about 275 watts applied to climbing, I'm guessing total output = 425 watts including rolling and wind resistance at 10Mph.

man those 4 and 5 hour ride will do a body good! Are you doing the 24 Solo? Long and slow (meaning a low HR) is the way to go!
i try to focus more on year hours (450 goal) but i also do track miles just for the sake of it.
1800 miles and 123 hours.

No just plan on doing Dalton. Two weeks before Dalton is a week of training hell in an attempt to peak for the race. The week before will just consist of a lot of sleep.

cool....and by the way I know you have a long drive, I'm not sure on your route but you are welcome to crash at my place either before or after the race, if that would help you at all (Dalton is an hour from me)

Thanks for the offer but I'll probably crash at my brothers place in White Plains. I'm trying to get him to come up and hang out at the race, but he plans on being the father of a 1 month old boy by then. He will either kill to get out of the house or will not want to leave.

He will want to get out of the house, but his wife will kill him if he does.

Doubt it. My bro is whipped like no one has ever been whipped before. We used to be real tight but now I don't like to visit because it pains me to see what he has become. But he is happy I guess, well as long as his wife tells him to be happy that is. :help:

Of course I say that now. I have this 75% theory. 75% of the way into any endurance event-> 24, 12 hour or century, I want get off the bike, curl into a ball and cry myself to sleep. The key is getting past that 75% hump.

So who is taking Friday June 24 off from work? I did. I really don't have to, since I got to Dalton so frikkin early last year, but I won't get anything done if I go into work that day.
