Yes because single shear seat stay bearings are pro yo!. Clearly you must weigh no more than a feather. I'm talking about modern SC frames, not a 2006 v10.

It's not an opinion that unlocked single shear bearings are rubbish, it's a fact. This is why I stay away from RM, rubbish bike manufacturers and fanboys make me angry, I'll see you in another year (don't get too excited).
If you are incapable of seeing when a single shear design is perfectly appropriate, you are obviously lacking as an engineer (yeah, we've heard you talking yourself up before). Out of the thousands of frames out there I have never seen a frame or bearing failure at that point.

I weigh 75-80kg depending on how much energy I waste correcting people like you. :)

I'm getting that itchy feeling again, reckon I'm going to slap the CCDB in the Undead and see how it feels.
Anyone else in here using one (coil) and would care to share some general feedback / settings etc?

The base tune seems incorrect though?

It's not possible to set 12 clicks of HSR - I assume it's 1.25 ?

And on the subject of the bearings, which is the bearing which sits inside the h link?
(is it the 4 x Spherical bearing GE1017 SP?)

1 x delta link right
1 x delta link left
2 x H-link
1 x flip chip right
1 x flip chip left
1 x upper shock bolt (Cro-Mo) right
1 x Lower bolt M6*P1.0*20mm (left)
1 x rear shock bolt (AL7075-T6)
4 x Spherical bearing GE1017 SP
8 x H-link pivot bolt
8 x H-Link pivot shaft
2 x 3rd flip chip bolt
2 x 3rd flip chip shaft
1 x DT pivot bolt
2 x DT pivot washer
1 x DT pivot cap
2 x bearing 6901 2RS 12*24*6mm
1 x DT bolt M8*P1.25*20mm

Maybe they got the HSR and LSR columns mixed? Looks plausible.

I'd go up at least 25lbs in spring rate from whatever you are happy with on the RC4, mathematically the correct number is more like +50lbs. The RC4 generates a lot of (air) spring force with the large shaft. By all means try your current spring but chances are it'll be too soft.

The GE1017 SP is the correct part, good luck finding it. I think the part needs to be redesigned anyway though, shoot Kevin an email and let him know yours are gone already. I feel this wait is getting a little unreasonable.

I get the resistance generated by the air, though I don't get the sprint rate recommendation.
Sag at 30% from one shock to another will be the same spring. With the DB I can just add compression to make sure it doesn't blow through the travel.

I have my distro on the case, but will email Kevin too. I'm off to France in 2 weeks, and I'm worried that it can potentially ruin the holiday by breaking.

No it won't.
You can read my ramblings on it here.

Running more compression will just be a blanket fix and result in an overdamped setup.

I'll give it a read now. I have spoken to the suspension Gurus here in the UK (TFTuned), who said that the DB would more than likely need a lighter spring.

ps: I have a 50lbs heavier spring to play with

pps: I'm not married to the idea of a CCDB yet, just have one laying about that will fit. I'm still hankering towards something BOS ;) I'm assuming that the progressive tune ( ST tune) would be the same as the revolt?

I was actually just going to post a question ver similar to this, but in regards of how/where I can get a bearing/linkage rebuild kit for the undead. What would be the best way to contact kevin, because I have sent emails through evils website (beyond outdated) and pinkbike, and had NO response? Its a shame because the bikes are so bad ass but the customer service and attentiveness seems terrible, at least thats my experience.

@supercow, where did you get that screenshot of the shock set up guide?

I got it from Kev himself, but he said that it is in fact a mistake .
Where do you live Prestondh, the kits you can get from you local distro.

It should be HSC:2,HSR:2,LSC:12,LSR:12

Thanks! That is the DHX RC4 base tune? Earlier post I was asking about my rear suspension set up, I have a DHX RC4, Canecreek Ti spring 400# 3.00, (i have adapters for the canecreek spring to fit the fox shock). I was having trouble setting up the shock and had to up the HSC just as to not bottom out even on hits that were not super huge. I weigh 150-160lbs all geared up and will give that tune a shot. On another note, I picked up a RS Vivid r2c AIR with the low compression med rebound tune. Any advise, recommendations, experience, opinions on the vivd air with the undead and setting it up? I have searched the interwebz hi and low but found nothing in regards for setting up either the rc4 or vivid air on the undead. Anything I found sent me to this forum and some people on here seem very knowledgeable and friendly so I thought I would give it a shot.

I live in Dallas, tx. SO as far as any dh related stuff, there is NONE and I am almost 100% positive no bikeshop around dallas knows of the brand evil, let alone carry any parts, due to the absence of dh here. That being said, I am forced to go online to buy parts for the undead and any issues that I have had that should be covered under warranty are completely out of the question due to no response from evil.

Also, what mounting hardware kit/sizes would I need for the vivid air r2c as I currently have a dhx rc4? Thanks!

PrestonDH, thaose settings were for the CcDB that I listed.
Unsure who your distro is, as Udi suggested, it's best to contact evil as they are very responsive.

They are kindly sending me some new spherical bearings, while the wait for the new ones to be manufactured .
Result :)

Yea, one of them.

Kev said he's very frustrated with the situation, and Enduro usually does great bearings, but the new bearings shouldn't take much longer.

22x10mm both ends. 22mm wide and 10mm ID.

Correct tune would be the same as what was correct for the Revolt, but they spec'd the wrong one for that bike (as with many others), in this particular case because they assumed it had ~175mm of travel instead of ~205mm. I think the correct (coil Stoy) tune according to the way they spec them should be ST02.

Also, the gurus are wrong unfortunately - the only possibility of the inverse of what I said applying is if the RC4 was sprung too firmly in the first place. The sag numbers definitely won't be identical with the same spring, if you can accurately measure the difference give it a go just to confirm for yourself.

Keep us updated with what you think of either shock if you try them.

Cheers dude, I'm in the lucky position to measure my sag using the same spring for both the Fox and the DB.
Won't be able to do it for a few weeks though, off to the Alps I go soon! :)

I posted a couple weeks ago that my undead was bottoming out/making noises and I received some replies about spring rate. I have since taken some steps to try and prevent it, I adjusted hsc on my dhx rc4 and increased the air pressure and bottom out control quite a bit and that helped a bit but I was still bottoming out, I also swapped in a rs vivid air r2c and I weigh about 155lbs and the psi is set at 180, with compression almost all the way up and I still am getting the bottoming out. That has led me to believe its not my shocks. What seems interesting to me is that I adjusted the flip chip on the linkage from low bb to high, my headset setting has been at steep this entire time and I've left it that way, after changing from low to high bb my bottoming out problem seemed to have gone away. I noticed this after I switched back from high bb and steep headset back to low bb and steep headset, this obviously has a role in the bikes issue, I am not for sure what though.
The drops I am hitting are about 8-10ft high and about 10ft out and the transition/landings are not manicured, but I am carrying plenty of speed so its not just a drop from a dead stop and I am not even close to landing flat or casing the landings, I also have never had this issue on my 2008 scott gambler which weighs 46lbs with an old fox van r, and also have not seen any other guys have this issue with their bikes on these jumps.
Also, I THINK it is bottoming out but I am not looking at the rear suspension to be able to tell 100% because I am obviously riding the bike, but I can feel it through the bike and the most through my legs and pedals, I hear a fairly loud noise that people who are standing by and watching me ride hear as well and it also happens after I have used up what feels like the majority of travel of the shock and after it happens I can feel the bike is not compressing anymore and starts rebounding, that is why I believe it is bottoming out.
Has anyone else had this issue or is this a known issue? I can not believe that this bike would bottom out and make such harsh noises and landings on features that other bikes seem to handle fairly easy.
Anymore suggestions? Should I try contacting kevin at evil bikes? Thanks guys!

Is it possible that you are buzzing your tire on your seat? If so, try raising your seatpost, changing saddle angle or pushing the seat forward on its rails.

prestonDH -
Sounds like you really just need to go to a harder spring for the drops you are doing. It's pretty unlikely that your bike is any different to anyone else's and the Undead has a pretty progressive leverage curve.

Deflate the shock/remove the spring and compress the frame to double check you're getting full travel?

Ding ding ding, I think we have a winner, yd35 with the seat being the issue. I am looking at it now and it appearsthe some of the back of my seat I chewed up. I know other people earlier had me tioned the seat post/tube and I had checked there but never though to check the actual seat. I guess that introduces a second issue though, my seat post, I beam carbon sdg, is as high as it can go with out without going above the minimum seat post insertion point. I really don't want to get a new seat post and I have the seat set up to my liking but considering the circumstances I will have to adjust so as not to have the issue described above. Is there any shims I could use to raise my seat post up higher but still have that structural support at the seat post insertion minimum?
Big thanks to you guys for helping out with this.
As a side note I emailed Kevin this morning and he responded that same hour and was more than willing to help and solve this problem, awesome customer service!

Not sure if there's anything you can do about the seatpost. Other than adjusting tilt or rail position, which may make the seat less comfortable, I'd suggest trying a new seat, preferably a smaller one.

Feeling great on idylle coil and CCDb . :D
Would like to hear your CCDB settings, about to start using mine.

I've now come to the conclusion that I dislike the RC4 and got rid of it. It works well in relatively "less taxing" situations, but faced with numerous successive roots / rock gardens and square edged hits, the shock just could not keep up with my fork which slowed the bike right down.
Fun in poppy situations and on bermed swoopy tracks, but that's about it imo.

I thought you quit riding DH?
Anyways, if you want a new frame, perhaps hit up Evil or Fanatik Bikes in WA.
Back in business?
Well it has been 1 year and 1 week since I blew it out. I was undecided after my injury. I didn't know how my knee would feel and turn out...

My lower leg has about 1/4"-3/8" of play in it. There is no pain, sometimes it does feel sore. But it gets the job done, I was riding again after 3 months... so yah I never quit, just got re-focused. It's great now I am a much better rider than I've ever been.

I was just looking for a 2nd hand, used but new type of deal.. I think I found one now I am trying to purchase..

The Demo was my first DH bike ever....I want to try something new, and I have narrowed it down to the Undead even though I've never ridden it. Some things just look so bad ass you have to have it.

In fairness the RC4 really needs to be de-BV'd to suit this frame - whether that's an old one with the BV removed or a 2014 version. In factory guise it's going to be too progressive at EOS and probably detrimental on square edged hits as a result.

I was pretty happy with mine after that and some tweaking.

I figured that, given that I don't have the know how to do the twerking to the RC4 myself, the CCDB will allow me to twerk away to my heart's content :)

I have some spring weights to play with too

For CCDb I'm weight 167lb with gear. I'm use 400# spring and for my setting LSC little ~ 5 click ,HSC 2turn , LSR for your weight , HSR 2.75 turn ,all from full open . It amazing bike for front and rear shock .
