The cool thing with the GG Megatrail is you can aquire the frame, build it with your Nomad parts or 275 build-kit, then keep an eye out for a 29er fork/wheelset cheap and modify the bike to the Smash with just the seatstay kit later down the track.
Sounds the same as me. I've got a 30" inseam.@Da Peach I’m 5’8 but all torso and short legs. I have the smash size 3 and in short mode, and I love it. It’s my first 29 bike. I have always liked large bikes when sitting on them but the seat tube mast was always to tall for a dropper over 100mm. My other bike is a medium 2014 reign with a 55mm stem. I ride the 3 gg with a 35mm stem. I get to the same place butt to hands more or less.
That's helpful. I'll check them out.....
Short answer- I had no problems with some tight square edge switch backs and short tech climbs.
Will is your same height, and he is building up a Size 3, planning on short setting on the GeoAdjust, short stem. That's helpful. I'll check them out.
Seems current wisdom is "go long"
Yes. And that was on purpose, as lizard repellent. I’m planning on doing that for the Red Bull Burner and Whistler this year. Then, back to Trail Pistol for general trail riding.@mtg - if someone wanted to get on the bandwagon and run a 295er Megatrail, would it be as simple as removing the 15mm cup and putting a 29er fork and wheel on the front?
Hovering over "buy" button... Site say's they're in stock. Would a size 3 ship pretty quick? Will is your same height, and he is building up a Size 3, planning on short setting on the GeoAdjust, short stem.
In stock is a little optimistic, will have to check on that.Hovering over "buy" button... Site say's they're in stock. Would a size 3 ship pretty quick?
I will try real hard to be there, sounds funny to say since I’m about an hr away. Those Glorieta trails are the shit. <plug> The GG Camping Weekend this year is there. </plug>
Holy crap. That's a lot of drop! I'd not thought of that. I'll likely be getting a oneup as well, so I'll have to check on insertion lengths to optimize balls depth.By the way Peach my inseam is about 30 too, my size 3 has a 170 oneUp post and I don’t think I need to shim it shorter. But it is balls deep as the phrase goes.
Lemme know!In stock is a little optimistic, will have to check on that.
Tweaked a little in a few ways: slacker head angle, a little longer stays, 5mm more travel in Trail Mode, GeoAdjust, shorter seat tube, lower stand over, better water bottle location, improved frame storage kit.BTW, other than the carbonness, are the new versions of the megatrail much different from the alu version? I'm reading all the reviews. Not too many on the new version that I've managed to find.
Lower standover is nice for sure. The longer stays don't worry me, they're about the same as my old bike.Tweaked a little in a few ways: slacker head angle, a little longer stays, 5mm more travel in Trail Mode, GeoAdjust, shorter seat tube, lower stand over, better water bottle location, improved frame storage kit.
What about dropping out the cup and running an angleset to maintain geo but.........umm lower with 27.5s?Yes. And that was on purpose, as lizard repellent. I’m planning on doing that for the Red Bull Burner and Whistler this year. Then, back to Trail Pistol for general trail riding.
Are you riding one of these? Aren't we about the same height? What about dropping out the cup and running an angleset to maintain geo but.........umm lower with 27.5s?
I'm the same height and the Size 2 sounds good I thought?5’-8.5”
2 sounded small...
It does, but so does the Size 3 in short mode...I'm the same height and the Size 2 sounds good I thought?
Are you riding one of these? Aren't we about the same height?
I really hope that's just a shitty joke.Until the scoliosis really takes over, yes.
If you want to run it lower with 27.5 wheels, you don't have to change anything in the headset. What about dropping out the cup and running an angleset to maintain geo but.........umm lower with 27.5s?
I wish they kept the 29 stays shorter for this. What about dropping out the cup and running an angleset to maintain geo but.........umm lower with 27.5s?
What setup are you looking to run? Short stays, 27.5 -> Shred Dog. 130/140mm rear travel, 423mm (16.7") chainstay length.I wish they kept the 29 stays shorter for this.
You’re just fuggin with me...Until the scoliosis really takes over, yes. Size 2 all the way. Especially in your neck of the woods.
Two broken back incidents, 5 knee surgeries that make we walk funny and about 4 collapsed discs. I really really wish it was a joke. But the joke is my spine these days.I really hope that's just a shitty joke.
Nah man, you ride tight shit right out your door. You don't live in the desert where avg speed is around 30mph. It comes in spurts when you're in a rain forest. You need to be able to yank up, not look two miles ahead with the wind muting out your thinkin noises. You’re just fuggin with me...
I'm not talking about short shocking the thing or trail mix mode. Elaborate on your cryptic, ambiguous post please. If you want to run it lower with 27.5 wheels, you don't have to change anything in the headset.
What's the deal with the 15mm cup? Extended lower headset cup to compensate for shorter non-wagon wheel forks?Yes. And that was on purpose, as lizard repellent. I’m planning on doing that for the Red Bull Burner and Whistler this year. Then, back to Trail Pistol for general trail riding.
Yowza. How much hardware is in there? Two broken back incidents, 5 knee surgeries that make we walk funny and about 4 collapsed discs. I really really wish it was a joke. But the joke is my spine these days.
And I don't even own a fuckin dirt bike.
Lots in the knees, none in the back. Just lots of floating bone pieces embedded in muscle. Cold mornings are awesome.Yowza. How much hardware is in there?
Why does everyone keep asking me that? What's the deal with the 15mm cup?
But... trendz!!!Nah man, you ride tight shit right out your door. You don't live in the desert where avg speed is around 30mph. It comes in spurts when you're in a rain forest. You need to be able to yank up, not look two miles ahead with the wind muting out your thinkin noises.
Technology is getting better if you ever decide to fix that.Lots in the knees, none in the back. Just lots of floating bone pieces embedded in muscle. Cold mornings are awesome
Look at the wheelbase numbers on a size 3 and compare that to every other bike you've ever owned.But... trendz!!!
We doin spine replacements now? I'm in!Technology is getting better if you ever decide to fix that.
