last night: NG Unplugged Old English Porter

wow. it's sour enough that Dan (brewer) has had to put out a press release that "yes, it's supposed to taste like this". It's good (not my favorite), but love it that his Unplugged series really is him having fun and experimenting with beers that not everyone is going to like. too many "brewers specials" are just higher alcohol brews that are still made to appeal to 100% of the people that are already buying the normal release beers (I'm looking at you Sprecher, Sam Adams, etc).

Ok......SIXPOINT:

Very smooth. Caramel color and flavor. Malty but not overbearing. Little sweetness.

Aroma is sweet with a caramel overtone.

5% ABV

tasty.........but not as good( to me) as the Small Craft Warning

Central Waters Imperial Stout

It's cold (60?) out, getting dark earlier and earlier, and needed something more suited to fall than summer. So pulled this out of the basement stash, and definitely hits the spot.

Hey, don't rush Winter, we still have Fall to look forward to... this weekend (high low 60s, low in the mid 40s).

Thinking of getting the backyard firepit going either tonight or tomorrow night, and I've got a Central Waters Bourbon Barrel Stout that's been stored since last winter, or a couple of Tyranena Rocky's Revenge (Bourbon Barrel Ale) in the fridge as well...

So a week ago I was in the local specialist bottle shop and after a long internal argument with myself got a bottle of Invercargill brewerys "Smokin Bishop" a smoked bock.

Amazing!!!!! I've always had a soft spot for bocks and this one just blew me away!!!:wub::drool:

Then last night the missus as a special surprise got me a bottle of the Original smoked beer from Bamberg in Barvaria. :weee:
Also amazing but perhaps a tad lighter in taste and with a lighter smokiness.

Ah here's the bottle......http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Aecht_schlenkerla_rauchbier.jpg

Tonight I'm just kicking back in front of the fire with a green ginger wine. :)

Had a Oskar Blues Ten Fidy last night. I love dark beers, but it wasn't really my cup of tea.

Oh well....

Going to Sunset Grill tonight so I'll have 300+ beers to choose from tonight :thumb:

Petrus aged pale ale, Drie Fonteinen kriek, and Troubadour blonde.

Sadly in that order but after seeing the cost of the Kriek I decided I better go a little cheaper. All three beers are great, first time with the blonde.

Love 3 Fonteinen's Krieks. :-)

Mojito, but with ginger instead of mint. Damn this is really, really good. Granted, anything with sugar, lime and rum can't be that bad...
Ok, drinking this again tonight, and is quite possibly the best drink I've ever had. My wife has named it the Gracie, and here's the recipe:

wife said:
First, make a simple syrup with ginger. (Ten minutes, tops, but you can double or triple the ingredients and have lots of leftovers for your next batch.)
Take half a cup of sugar and half a cup of water. Put them in a small saucepan and cook on the stove over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. If it bubbles a bit, that's fine, but don't get a boil going or anything. Add thin slices of fresh-cut ginger root. Lots of it. At least 2-3 inches of root. More if you really like ginger. Periodically stir the mixture so that the sugar dissolves and the ginger gets nice and bruised. When the sugar is dissolved, turn off the heat and let cool. You can use it now, and store whatever's left over in the refrigerator.

Then, put half a lime in the bottom of a large mug or glass and muddle it (bash it with a blunt instrument until juiced and bruised).
Add about an ounce of the simply syrup with ginger. More if you really like sweet and/or ginger.
Add two ounces of white rum.
Fill the glass to the brim with ice.
Fill the remains of the glass with club soda.
Stir.

:thumb:

(edit. alternate name for this is the Gingerito. wasn't really feeling the name Gracie.)
