As for Jones hitting hard - I don't think he hits hard.
I think Rua is a better judge of that than you might be.

Mauricio Shogun Rua has broken his silence following the humbling UFC 128 defeat to Jon Jones, confessing the new champion "hits hard".
I think he is referring to the flying knee, but still. I have never been hit by Jones, but I will take Shogun's word for it.

A flying knee by anyone would hurt. Also what was shogun to say? He hits like a pussy but i was outmatched? ;) I doubt it. If you hit somone a lot with elbows, kness, flying backfists and other flash stuff it will be hard even if you are a featherweight. It's like saying someone hit's hard because he has a baseball bat ;) As long as you defend the flashy stuff and clinch elbows you can last enough to see if Jones can gas.
Last fight also has shown that he tends to go into a bit of panic mode when attacked by an agressive striker. If Page did that chasing around the cage with Machida he would be Ko'd.

Also I'm not trying to say Jones is not a great fighter. People just tend to overhype him and claim he is the best at everything and could beat the jesus out of jesus.

He's impressed the hell outta me, but I wouldn't put him in the cage against Jesus unless he could make the weight cut. JC is a middleweight at best.

But don't lose sight of the fact he's young as hell. OK, he might get lazy and get caught, but if he still has the title after Evans, it's hard to see someone beating him.

He does cut a lot to make 205, so that might be part of the problem. He's WAY too small for the current HW class, though. But it wasn't long ago the average HW was only 240, now all the top guys are cutting to make 260.

Jones has a long way to go before I put him in Anderson Silva territory, but I sure want to see that fight eventually. Give Jones 2 years if he works at it.

1) Hw - Top guys are cutting to make 260? Cain, JDS, Cormier? Hell Werdum and Overeem are close to 265 but don't cut. Carwin doesn't cut anymore. The whole new breed of cutting to 265 thing is over. They all decided they need cardio to last over 1 round and even the big guys are a bit under the limit. The only guy who needs to cut is Bigfoot but he was born big.

2) In 2 years Anderson may as well be past his prime. He might fight Jones for **** and giggles and the fanboys will call him no good and discredit his career if that happens. I don't want Silva fighting Jones for that reason.

Not after his first hospital holiday for diverticulosis. He either didn't cut or cut very little and he now has a 2nd holiday like that. Now he may loose even more weight. Also that is only one guy and he is afraid of getting punched. Jon Jones is a stylistic nightmare for him.

Reary?

Pretty sure the game plan would be the same as most of his fights, rush in for the take down, then sit on Jones till he gets tired and finish with gnp.

I'm gonna go ahead and say that getting hit by Jones is like getting slapped by a grandma compared to the bombs Carwin was throwing.

Jones would be a fool to move to HW. I don't know what you are smoking thinking he would. Silva has talked about moving up and has fought at 205, so that fight is a lot more likely than Jones/Carwin.

Jones will destroy the next 3 guys, then Silva will be the only guy left to beat. He has now dominated 2 of the LHW's best and he has improved with each fight. He's 24 with 11"+ reach on everybody, unless he gets lazy, he will be walking through guys for a while.

Reary. Carwin lost because he gased. Jones will not at HW. Also nightmare as in - top level wrestler with good striking. That's a problem for Brock. He only other good wrestler he won against not named Carwin was Randy and while I have mad respect for Randy Jones would do waaaaay better and Randy wasn't doing that bad himself.

As for being a fool - it depends how much he will grow. He is in the age you gain a lot of muscle mass if you are phisicaly active so it may be hard for him to stay at LHW. Unless you want him to piss blood like overeem.

Look at Diaz and he's 26. He had issues when he first dropped to 155, but he looked perfect last fight. Jones has the same build in a slightly larger frame. He won't have issues making 205.

The only way I would give Bones a chance with any of the top HWs is if he put on ~ 40 lbs.

Honestly though, he is a quick, lanky guy and I don't think he could put on enough weight without seriously hindering his speed, which is where he has a big advantage over the HWs.

If you think you grow and 24 and stop at 25 you are wrong ;) From what I gathered main muscle grow happens between 23 and 27 or 30 acording to different theories. Jones also has 2 very big brother. Nick and Nate are both very thin.

Also if you have to use examples - Anderson Silva was a WW and a small one at that when he started his career. So we can argue with examples both ways. We have to wait and see but don't think it's impossible for Jones to grow or show fatigue already if he will be pushed in fights.

Most heavy weights could fight at LHW, like Fat Roy Nelson.

Cain is 6'1" 240, not the same as 6'4" 240. Mir is 265, Cormier is 250. Again, Jones isn't move up, BE SERIOUS.
Mir was all over the place. (220-260)
JDS is 6'3'' and 239lb
Werdum 6'4'' 246lb
Cormier was 247lb at his last fight - the heaviest in his career and he is fat at around 25% body fat. Jones is 8-10% at fight time. 15% of 37 so his Lean body mass is lower than Jones at LHW during fight time...
Kongo 6'4'' 234lb
Shane Del Rosario 6'4'' 248lb
Carwin 254lb (he doesn't cut anymore)
Do I need to continue?

As for Cain at 240 but smaller - if that's the case than why didn't Rampage win? He is shorter and much more muscular.

Not to mention you are claiming he would be giving 20 pounds - he would not. He would be similar height and weight to most of the top 20 hw's Not called Silva. Lesnar will be smaller come next fight. He was 260 with no cut for his Cain fight while he used to cut previously.

Why do I have to repeat it for the 3rd time in this discussion. If he doesn't have to he probably won't but HE MAY STILL GET BIGGER = HEAVIER = HARDER CUT = IMPOSSIBLE TO FIGHT FOR HIM AT 205.

Seriously you sound like those guys claiming Overeem would be mauled at hw since he has no stamina at lhw and would be harder for him to fight hws. Look what happened.

Jones won't get much bigger. He is not stupid. It's better to be LHW Champ than HW punching bag. And these days trainers are good at their jobs.

Jones will keep his weight more or less consistent for the foreseeable future.

That's a horrible comparison Overeem is a tank.

Edit: I would also like to say that IMHO Jones is looking so fantastic in part because LHW is currently a weak division. Look at how many times the belt has changed hands in the last 5 years. Even Machida was able to swoop in and get his turn. The division consists of a few TUF grads and some older fighters, not a star studded lineup if you ask me.

You are missing my point completely.
Keeping your weight if you are phisicaly active is NOT ALLWAYS a choice. If it's possible for him to stay at LHW than he will stay there but it's possible that future cuts will be too hard for him and it will be impossible (you know, like having no choice? ;) ) for him to cut for lhw.

Also Overeem is a tank now, before he was small enough to be at lhw.

Jones might have that problem one day but I would put money on Jones being a LHW for at least 5 yrs.

As for Overeem we are talking about a guy who had to cut until he pissed blood to make 205.

Dude makes Rua look little. If you want watch his 1999 fight against Ricardo Fyeet. Overeem is 19 and already pretty yoked.

So, anybody have predictions on who's going to win tomorrow? I'd like to see Silva beat Le, but i don't know if it's going to happen.
I'd also like to see SHogun win just because i'm an old fan of Chute box, but Henderson always looks good. That's goin to be a tough fight for them both. I'm glad the main events are now 5 rounds.

If Shogun who could fight the whole fight with Machida shows up he may win but I think thats the only option since Hendo can outwork him and he has the best chin in the game. Im rooting for Hendo since I really want to see him fight Jones. Not that I see him having the tools but he is a bit nuts and can upset anyone.

You are correct about Shogun. Ever since the fall of Pride, he's been very inconsistent. He has the potential to be one of the best, but he doesn't always come to the fight in good enough shape. I know he gets injured a lot, but still, he needs to be in better shape.
Hendo is always in good shape EXCEPT when he fought Jake Shields. It's really rare to see Dan in bad shape. It's going to be a good fight. Neither of them are ever in boring fights. I'd like both of them to win, but I think Shogun isn't going to be able to pull it off unless he can swarm Dan like he used to swarm everybody in Pride. I don't see it happening though. Dan can always drop him with that right hand, although Shogun hasn't been knocked out either. Should be a good fight.

Thats a good example why 5 round non title fights are bad - fighters will see this fight and will note - going for a ko may exhaust you and leave you very open in the comming rounds = more boring fights. Especially if their chin isnt made from indestructible space rock like Hendos.
