Problem is, it would really affect whoever is at the later end of the 20. Rain quite often comes in and changes a track dramatically in a matter of minutes, the converse isn't true, you never get a track that goes from sodden to bone dry in 15 minutes. As such the ones in the pack of 20 that go down last would - on average - be disadvantaged.

My suggestion would be to do the 20 as recommended, but to mix the start order up. I'm tempted to say randomise it, but that seems a bit unfair, that your race could be ruined on a chance decision.

Personally I think if conditions are clearly going to change, then the whole race should be put on hold until there's a high probability of the weather holding for 20 minutes or whatever. So everyone gets a dry track, or everyone gets a wet track, etc. Track conditions just make FAR too much difference - it ruins the racing IMHO.

And I'd go so far as to say that if 10 of them go down and then the heavens open, well then they should re-run the race later in the day, and those 10 would have to re-do their runs.

All gets a bit complicated doesn't it ;)

I tend to agree, a soaking wet track in the pourng rain is faster than a track just after the rain has stopped and mud starts to get tracked on everything and turn into peanut butter.

Video is still loading here....cant wait.

Hope that new UCI rule is not true. Goes against the grain of a classic tradition of tactics and mind games.

Litter Day 4 is up with some interesting news (if it's been posted, sorry).

http://www.littermag.com/features/champery/day4/1.htm

"The riders and UCI have now agreed that from Mt. Ste. Anne onwards, all the top 20, regardless of qualifying times will start together, so that races cant be decided by the weather in future. With a short season and no throw aways, this is a welcome change. "
Thought there was some big audio interview with sam hill....link please.

Such viciousness for such a happy guy-is it raining in colorado?

I would have sworn it said today-so sorry if I did not read it well... but excuse me for being hopped on MTB viagra after a historic day that I missed.

3 months, it won't be news....hell, by noon today it won't be.

I'm all for leaving the qualifying format as is. How does World Cup Skiing do their top 20? Auto qualify or is it fall down/go home?

Also, I thought UCI gave points for qualifying to make qualifying such a massively important factor for the pros to go hard in practice. Am I right on that? You gain more points in qualifying, meaning the difference in the overall at seasons end?

It's nobody's fault but Hill and Nico's that they qualified the way they did. Them and it looked like Gee were the only real top dogs who chose to qualify high and go for a few points. Their strategic mistake.

I remember Minnarr cost himself a higher finish at Worlds a few years back...gambled that it would rain during finals. Instead, the top guys had a dry, grooved in line come finals time.

you may not have the correct codecs installed on your PC. Also watch the video of the cop shoving a knee into the old lady in the car.
I asked: Do I need to download some special codec or something?
You answered: You may not have the correct codec.

Not really an answer is it! :disgust1: ;)
