Question for the MS Evil team [ska todd?]: why does Steve Smith have different kit than Matti and Filip? Is he not on the "MS" part of the team? or is it simply that he has prior sponsorship deals?

Either way, seems like you guys are doing really well as a team for your first year on the circuit. I know you're all veterans in your own right, but this team and bike is new and I think its a testament to all you guys that you're doing so well. It certainly makes me want to buy your bike :greedy::brow::bonk: It's also cool to see Steve back at the top on still picking away at the top spots. I hope Dirt Mag keeps showing you guys in their vids...

Steve Smith is on a TLD contract so he runs TLD kit, whereas Matti adn Filip are on Alpinestars kit, which is Matti and the teams supplier for kit for a few seasons now. Also the "team" as in MS is not new by anymeans, the only really new thing are that Evil are the bike suppliers and that MS have have a few new partners and sponsors.

Think thats it really

Win on Sunday, sell on Monday? Well, he did that for IH. I'd guess there will be more demo8's sold this year than v10's regardless of how many wins Sam gets.
So on a related note, which do you all think would result in a larger % increase in sales this year for their respective company: Mick Hannah's wins on a GT or Sam Hill's crashes on a Specialized?

I don't recall seeing one comment or question about Mick's GT but the Demo's been disected every way possible on these pages.

What did Mick Hannah win? (talking world cups here)...
Mick Hannah blew himself up in a wicked crash on saturday and was rumored he broke his bike in the crash (was not true)...but there is no video of it.

speaking of Mik, I am freaking stoked to see footage of him, he's so precisely aggressive, pumping, pedalling, and freaking ruling it in general, more video of him please!

Sly - As Akula references, Stevie & Evil joined the MS Team who already had an existing arrangement w/ Alpinestar. Stevie already had an existing arrangement w/ TLD. That's pretty much all there is to it. Syndicate-ish in a way perhaps you can say.

I do not see many people buying GT bikes any time soon. They failed so bad it is going to be very hard for them to make a comeback.

Most consumers and little groms might eat that $hit up but the shop owners that once got burned by GT are going to be hesitent to buy into the name again even with new owners.

I had a hard on for a lobo in the late 90's when peaty and EC were riding them and GT was a name people on the street would reconize.

Sorry...I was talking theoretically but didn't quite word it that way. I need to stop these rush posts.

He has drawn a lot of attention this year due to how well he has been riding but it doesn't seem to translate to his sponsor. I don't think if he won the rest of the WCs that people would run out and buy GTs. ...just saying

there were quite a few Demos at Highland opening weekend. much more than usual... perhaps it has already started.

as for GT, I was looking at EC's...it's nice and I've owned quite a few GTs before they died but... I'm not sure if I could buy one again and risk breaking it and not being able to get parts. then again, this is coming from a guy riding a sunday

Didn't notice. Sharpie spikes or sharpie dries?

Could understand if it was spikes...
Sam Hill was running Specialized Tires...a prototype mud tire called the "Storm DH" cut down to his liking...you'll find some photos if you look around the net close enough.

The comment was in reference to Gee Atherton running sharpied Maxxis Highrollers instead of Continentals.

At diablo last weekend there were a few red and white demos :brow:
were there demo's there last year before sam hill signed? :brow:

Just because hill signed doesn't mean people are getting them because of him. They're good bikes. :clue:

Ridemonkey amazes me sometimes.

Pros - good cornering, predictable.
Cons - Profile causes rider to fly farther through the air, sometimes missing the landing...
looked like he might have been on dry tires for finals.

I like the looks of that Storm tire though. There was a good picture of it on Litter day 3 showing that the center knobs are ramped to roll faster. not sure if they were cut that way or if it's stock, but it's a good idea either way.

They were cut that way. I have had some for a couple weeks. Chris Wyatt, Specialized tire enginerd, came up to Windrock and we tested them in the wet. I like them a little better than the Wetscreams because they seemed a little more predicable and grippy on the rocks when uncut. Not sure how they will end up in production. Chris still has to settle on compounds and if any changes need to be made to the tread`pattern. I suppose the WC riders will be sending in their feedback. But I think it says a lot of the tire that Sam got them just before Andorra and he ran them.

i've definitely seen more demos this year than years past, i'm not saying its not a good bike, it really is, but i think sam racing one is reassurance for some...
are you sure you haven't *noticed* more demo's this year?

At any rate, call me a Sam Hill fanboy, but it wasn't until he actually started shredding specialized tires in real WC races that I actually thought there might be something to them. I'm glad I did, because I now have a 2.5 clutch on my front and a 2.3 on my back, and they feel damn fycking good. Like a minion that rolls faster. Specialized is making inroads in the tire market, which is rad.

Yeah, but he can't win races on them so they must actually suck.:bonk:

Where's Shaun Palmer in all of this? I thought he'd make it to a few races.

Sporno, could you track him down?

Why isn't there any e-speculation about Sammy's crash that may have been caused by his foot slipping off the flat pedals? SPD vs. Flat revisited?

You can debate Sam's crash, but check out Rennie's crash near the finish line the week before. He crashed for SURE was because his foot got blown off a flat pedal. I ride and race both flats and clips, but ya gotta call em like you see em, and that one was obvious.:busted:

rennie's foot came off because he miss timed the rythme/bomb hole combo.... his fault.

rennie crashed due to pilot error

what if's (especially this kind) are just plain stupid

what if rennie was riding a unicorn that could fly! I bet he'd be mega fast! But I bet sam hill would be on an imperial speeder, and still take the win! And rennie would be angry and shoot rainbow beams at him and crush his will to dominate! He'd be placid as a mare for the taking, and the unicorn would make sweet sweet love to him! It'd be a tragedy.

Lets stick with reality. Steve Peat is winning overall. I hope he takes the overall and worlds this year!

You are joking right?

I don't see that ending up any different if he was clipped in.
