The DOC isn't slack. It's slack for a DJ bike, which it sounds like what you want. It's like 68-69. Rather than like 71 for more "real" dedicated DJ bikes.

I think he did a good job, but the concept is weird. I agree that the moto shock is overkill unless you weigh as much as a dirtbike and a regular person combined, and have the power output of a 50.
Specialized makes a little rubber knub that goes on the derailleur w/ 3M sticky tape and a zip tie. Your bike should have come with one of those. If it didn't you should check your LBS. Those things work just fine.
