Why would you send your kids to a school camp, in the middle of a pandemic in one of the most affected countries in the world?
I'm going to say something that might be a little shocking to someone in a civilized first world country: Americans don't exactly seek out information. Unless it has to do with something important like a new hamburger chain opening somewhere.

Or knowledge of specs and details on every firearm in existence but can’t tell you what foods are fattening.

Wait, there's a new hamburger chain opening up?

Yeah I've said that multiple times now, like 3 months ago. If we would shut down for real, we'd be done with this in 6 weeks. We could plan for it even and stock up on glen beck bucket food.

But dan-o don't want no govt bux, and cops gotta keep killing people so here we are.

If we REALLY had shut down, we'd be done. Like months ago done.

In my limited experience ( ) this would seem to be correct.
But hey clearly as a godless/Green party voter/rampant socialist..... What would I know!

Not so sure. See what happens in countries that had it under control by shutting down early, e.g. Germany, Israel. After careful reopening people think "oh, it is over" and party. Boom, the next wave is coming.

If george floyd and that store owner had been isolating none of this would be happening.

I think it's good that it is because it's showing a lot of people what cops and racist fuckwits all over the place are really like but it's the truth.

irider: You're thinking of examples of places that also did not genuinely shut down.

DaveW lives in one that did.

What mandown quoted is true. We can do this whenever we want. With less spread becomes less need for ungodly amounts of testing materials, useful test result time spans, and less need to completely overwhelm contact tracer jobs. Even under a complete lockdown, there will still be some miniscule spread via 'essential labor' but it then becomes manageable.

We just have to be intelligent enough to understand the value in doing it. So in that vein, we never will because we're a nation of morons who can't think past next week. And we also have a federal gov't who refuses to take the two most necessary steps to do this: 1. maintain liquidity for 6 weeks to avoid mass economic chaos, and 2. just taking this seriously enough to see the solution that's been sitting in front of their faces for 6 months now.

We’re too big belligerent to not fail.
Big has little to do with it. Makes it more complex for sure. But big doesn't make it impossible. Big makes us stronger in many ways, we could be doing that here.

Besides, that link you posted listed no interstate travel correct? So we can become 50 smalls.

I think a lot of people have realized they don't like their kids and will do anything to get away from them.
Wasn't it a Jesus-camp? Kids might turn gay, or even communist if they don't get Jeebus-injections each summer. And every Sunday.

So many people are shitheads. Kids are people, too.

Some lady was dragging her litter of 5 children in front of my house the other day. All of them were having meltdowns and heading in 5 different directions. She looked at me and in a very exasperated voice pleaded for help. I asked her if she has looked into birth control. No way am I touching some strangers kid. If one was in immediate danger I would have poked it into a safer location with a long stick, but no one was in harms way.

Sturgis will be a nice natural experiment.

This is where I hope that Covid mutates and becomes 100% fatal.

Just kidding

I was wondering why the local freedom center was empty this weekend. Usually it's 100+ partying like it's normal.

If I was a democrat, I'd heavily advertirse this and throw in freebies for assistants from swing states.
