This is what I describe when people ask me why I have a dropper post on my fatbike."Help, I've fallen and I can't get up."

That takes some quality suspension to get through without arm pump?West coast racks View attachment 156935
At least you didn't do what I did a bunch of times on Saturday- stop, put feet down and immediately sink down just the right amount to squash the berries on the top tube."Help, I've fallen and I can't get up."

No berries were harmed, but I was definitely stuck without assistance. My buried left foot wasn't able to push me up. Right leg stuck up over the top tube was supporting my weight and stopping me sinking more and because of the weight on the bike I couldn't move it on my own to get out of my predicamentAt least you didn't do what I did a bunch of times on Saturday- stop, put feet down and immediately sink down just the right amount to squash the berries on the top tube.
Who said anything about not having arm pump? Did an out and back ride, definitely helped that I went up this section before going back down and kind of spotted the lines. What really would have helped is going faster, but something about being solo, on a trail I'd never ridden way away from any popular tails, in a half shell and leaving my knee pads in the truck inspired caution/riding like a sissy. That takes some quality suspension to get through without arm pump?
A gap over chollas? You brave people.
Chollas aren't so bad. Daggers (variation of yucca, I think) are kinda deadly tho.A gap over chollas? You brave people.

I've had some cholla spines stuck in my butt crack a couple times.Allus had them in my shins while in El Paso.
Thanks for rubbing it in. We're rapidly entering the mud season when all trails are closed... to bikes. Only bikes.Man you snow guys have a level of commitment that is somewhere between impressive and seriously questionable. Although, glacier ice for your scotch sounds like it would almost be worth it.
Pic from a quick loop at dusk last night in Marin county. (That's Mt. Tam over there.) Gorgeous evening, 65 degrees or so.

that's my buddy derek's place, a 100 year old 4-over-4 house up in a valley smack dab in the middle of the best part of pisgah. he's a displaced kiwi, actually. the mountain in the background is yellowbuck, which has one of the funnest descents out there.Nice porch.
I wonder what his power output is.Derek sounds cool. We should all be like Derek.

I wish I had hills and snow like thisMOAR snow. Buddy and I both went swimming in it a few times. Falling on your back, with head pointed downhill in three feet of snow is tough stuff, I tell ya.
When I was a kid in Maine I saw a vehicle lifted like this but it was a vw bus and had an outboard motor in back too.
@jonKranked has met derek. he's the one that selected fugazi for the first round of porchbeers at snowshoe. he's also 51 and still tears it the eff up.Derek sounds cool. We should all be like Derek.

The hills here aren't that big... I'm sure you're closer to much bigger ones.I wish I had hills and snow like this

A lot of wild rhododendron. Must be pretty in the spring.a few from yesterday
I have been building a little rhodi collection in my garden.@CBJ so many rhodo tunnels up there! it's awesome even in the winter because they stay green, but even better around may/june. here's from a hike a bit higher up last month:
