Bought a new fatbike but it didn't arrive in time for Harriman grooming season, so my first ride of 2021 was yesterday the last day YNP was closed to cars.
The blinking sign said only open to hikers and bikers as it should be
Of course I missed last week's heat wave (50s) so it was a cold and blustery day.
A paltry 33 at 1:30 which was to be the warmest part of the day.
Not nearly as many riders out as normal, maybe 50 over the course of the 3 hours vs 50/hr normally...
First Bison sighting was 3 larger bulls, thankfully downhill
My toes were freezing all day (and snow was starting to blow in) I so didn't make it all the way to Norris Jct ~ 13 miles, probably just 11 til I turned around at this big herd of most female (presumably pregnant with calves) with yearlings in tow.
These 1-2 year olds were all huddled together out of the wind, while a few other calves were rolling in the dirt and prancing around...
Headwind on the ride back as it always is...
Hoping to take the new fatbike out tomorrow 1+1 = 2 as crust biking looks good at least in these temps....
Not pictured: the Midge, who was supposed to drive down but opted to pay for his dentist's new ebike, with emergency crown replacement and dental surgery.

Nothing new, it's a 2012 Turner Burner.
It's to help with right hand turns. Makes left hand turns a bitch though.
When the lock you keep in the covered parking garage bike rack at work is finally frozen / rusted / seized up and you're not leaving your sweet ride outside.
Headed to Mary's Loop today as we'd not done it for a few years. After balancing along the ledge to get to that climb I couldn't get it either.
From the iteration a few years back. Bought years ago on sale. They ought to last a loooooong time here. Two apare stainless rings, in an Enduro bearing threaded BB setup.
About 3 years on the mtb, on the commuter now for 2 or 3.
