Wanted a GT DHi - given I broke a lot of rear swingarms on my standard i-drive bikes, not sure how long that would have lasted. I had a chance to ride one late in my racing career, when it was old, and it still ripped.

I did bad things to a Dare I borrowed. Badly twisted an Intense Tazer, such that they sent everything but the shock link to replace it. Did bad things to a loaner Intense M1. Same to multiple Giant DH Team bikes. Had a Jekyll for about 3 weeks, when it went kaput. They ended my sponsorship after that; some concerns about things breaking...

I'm glad I never bot any Marzocchi products. Those things were heavy and pretty bad... Strong, but meh performance. Got lucky to get pro tune or models from Fox and Manitou on a lot of stuff.

There are a lot of DH bikes that could have potentially been better options for me, but nothing was as strong or long as the Yeti's. Rode a square tube DH-R a few times and that fucker was fast. Same spec as the Yeti, so fast bike.

Porn seemed so much more special when you had to use Usenet Newsgroups. The horrors you had to sift through to find a little amputee tentacle porn really built character.
I hated it when one of the 33 parts of the file wasn’t present in the thread and thus the unrar didn’t work.

Back inna day I briefly wanted a Boulder Bicycles or a Slingshot, but ended up with a gorgeous gator fade Klein Adroit, which spoiled me for life on expensive bikes.

I think it's the only bike I missed out on but from a riding perspective the Cannondale M900 I got was as good as what Klein was building especially when I was finish upgrading the parts. Besides that I have been very lucky to get bikes I really wanted and liked and not had anything on the list i regretted I did not get.

I had a Karpiel Disco Volante on order along with an Intense M1 back in 2002. I sure am happy that Intense was able to fill that order first.

I was always sort of sad Cortina disappeared. I liked those bikes, too.

Did he depose Stan in a violent coup?

More importantly, WHY IS IT NOT "MIKE'S?!"

I really wanted a Karpiel Disco Volante after I powder coated one. But it took a torch and a BFH to get the bottom Steelset cup out of that bitch.

That was a stout bike. The head tube was so buff.

Huh, Ventana is still around. Seems as though they didn't drink their milk and is suffering from osteoporosis.

The Aeon/Joker/Ellsworth convos informed me that he'd welded those up, which I had never known. Seems weird given the explode-y experiences of many of our members.

Remember the Go Ride El Cuervo tho? Those were neat.

Welded to spec doesn't means the spec was good and the welds were bad.

I always eyed the Kleins because of the fancy paintjob. Didn't they used to file the welds down to a smooth finish on those?

This is an awesome thread and makes me wish I hadn't junked all of the mountain bike magazines from when I was in high school so I could go back through them and laugh at all the insane design choices.

Always wanted a Foes Fly - not the sensible redesign, but the one with the shock "tunnel" and the floating disc brake.

You actually got a steelset out?

I tried once on a dirtjumper I had. I was defeated
I'm telling you, torch and BFH. It was like a 4 hour process. Those head tube were a half inch thick. That bike was not light, but so well put together.

Never got to ride one, but when it was done, it was stunning.

That shock has the highest ratio of bad to size.

If you got ahold of one of the gussetted discos those things were the shit. The earlier ones ovalized headtubes and would develop cracks but those last gen ones (the heat treated versions) had longer shocks/lower leverage ratios, a progressive leverage ratio that bike designers just recently realized they need, and they really were pretty light for a dh frame.

A friend of mine still has one that was built up with a flipped link to use as a short travel 4x racer that he keeps in his garage. I lust.
