I'm a savage and use straight gauge spokes too.
Oh! I do alu torx nips and double butted spokes. I seem to destroy my rims before the spokes or nips let go.

For the tool wanking-
Fox doesn’t make a bushing tool insert for a 38 from what I can tell so I am going to attempt making one.

Not sure yet if I go for the spot on one or the race one which is slightly oversize.

it's been a long time since i've toasted a rim :knock on wood: plus i use cushcore on my DH wheels and rimpact on my trail wheels, so that helps a little.
I do have to replace a spoke or two to get the last bit of life out of a rim though. I also run cush core during the bike park season.

I have to get something like that, I still use a cotton bud with the tip removed. Can't remember which wheel building guide that was in but it works.
A battery screwdriver one one of those drivers would be the tits!
I got the 1.5 size but will probably also snag the 2.5

And I've also been considering an electric screwdriver for it. But I don't build wheels that often so I'm not gonna sweat it.

The Bosch 3.6V screwdrivers are $80 here so they'd have to be about $1 in the US, I had a Wiha one but it sucked and used 6mm bits so I gave it to an electrician who likes it.

Wow, no way I'd pay $100US for it.
Dremel is the same as the Bosch, $40 but out of stock.
The hikoki ones are crap and expensive, I got a Makita stick impact from my boss for installing his car stereo, it's pretty cool, but not as useful as expected and nothing else uses a 7.2V battery.

I got that same screwdriver for my kid for his 3rd birthday, he loves it. He proceeded to try and take every screw out of everything he could in the house for months. No door strike plate was safe from a determined 3yr old with that Ryobi.

I've had to borrow the boss's impact driver a few times so I ordered a Koken one, coz fanboi.
Got a Tone 1/4" swivel head ratchet coming too, they look pretty handy.

The mechanical pullers we have at work make me cry, battling with the nuts and bolts in the legs and always wanting a third hand to hold everything together sucks.
Not anymore, mwah ha ha!

Had to get this from overseas, couldn't find a filter strap like this locally, it's great but it munts filters so you have to be sure you have the right one.

It doesn't articulate so it doesn't work everywhere but it is good enough most of the time.

Grabbed an old 24" Dowitat pipe wrench and and some other German brand in a 14".
No point in getting something shiny and new if you are going to whack it with a hammer, plus the Jaws in the affordable new ones can be pretty shit.

The old man bought his car in 2008 and hasn't changed the brake fluid, it annoyed me so much that I ordered a brake fluid boiler so I can see how much the fluid has degraded. I'd like to say I'd use it at work but we just change it if it looks bad, the only time that doesn't seem to work is if someone has bought something used and the seller has just emptied the res and put new fluid in the top end.

And I grabbed a Tone 620mm hinged head ratchet and some super short Koken sockets, trying to get in quick before the prices rise too much.

Well I'll be damned, the old man's 12yo brake fluid still beats the 155C minimum spec for dot4 fluid.

EDIT- Checked a mate's car today, his clutch fluid boiled at 116deg and the brake at 140, the brake fluid wasn't that old.
