in full disclosure I'm actually playing two dealers against each other. one just got back to me later than Greeley. putting $1k down on one coming in to Grand Junction as well... it's supposed to arrive 12/24.

it has an annoying $1k mandatory fabric/paint protection add-on but dealer fees are lower so really a wash. $500 shipping to here. the kicker is that if it's before the new year then the IRA pass-through credit definitely applies and CO's credit is $5,350 instead of $3,850.
Grand Junction dealer has me approved for the lease (whew :D but given my multi-account financial shenanigans this actually wasn't entirely a given even given my income) and they're now reporting that their unit has an ETA of Dec 19-23rd!

so the probability of this happening has just gone up substantially, as the fly in the ointment that'd have this all called off would be a January transaction date if VW Financial gets cold feet with the dotard incoming and pulls out all lease cash. that CO's credit is $1,500 more through Dec 31 makes it even better: pays for the stupid paint/upholstery protection package and the shipping charge from GJ alike.

the stupid paint/upholstery protection package
it's Perma Plate. and their site is entirely unhelpful wrt what it covers. "refer to your contract". oh well, stuck with it in either case as this dealer does it for all their sales as policy.

Middle kid may not be skiing tomorrow. Lot of coughing and she seems to be declining.

I get to figure out garage door repair tomorrow. Springs either broke or are just detensioned due to a renter pulling the emergency release on one of the garage doors. And said renters (or the cleaning crew) managed to switch the other garage door keypad into the locked mode.

so between these things neither garage door could be opened from the outside until I flipped that switch. And thus the trash company driver who picks up trash from within the garage on fridays could not get in earlier today. Thus a good portion of the garage is now filled with trash from the rental group over Thanksgiving, who managed to create a quite incredible amount of the same.

(and due to which door is broken I had to wedge the minivan in the small side of the garage at an angle, mirrors folded in and all.)

as promised:

just made it official: put down a $1k refundable deposit with Greeley Volkswagen on this particular 1st Edition AWD ID.Buzz, Cabana Blue/Candy White two tone over the Dune interior. ok, not the one in the press photo, but the one listed in the dealer order sheet, fine, be picky

Bought a bunch of contractor bags and rebagged everything back in the garage. Birdies were indeed keen on poking holes in all outside bags. (But pretty birds, not swallows)

My sweet Baby Aya is going to be the tiniest kid in Comp Center

View attachment 222535
I was a bit worried that she'd be too physically small for reliable lift loading/unloading, but she did great on Saturday, I am told. while she's in group 1 (of 8) she's also not sorted into the least-capable sub-group within group 1, so she's fitting in in the Comp Center universe just fine.

(and she loved her day save for the complaint of being too hot. which is much preferable to being too cold from my parental perspective.)

If we assume precisely half the population is female then even 1 ball is above the mean. (Note that some nominal females are probably XY with androgen insensitivity. But I’m assuming this count is lower than those with one ball removed on the male side of the fence.)

Overhead Door is coming to replace the old-ass and now broken Wayne Dalton i Drive opener, as they did the other side back in 2022. Lowes and Home Depot installation services would require me to be there on the date but Overhead Door is fine with working on it without me there, with just a garage door code. Ankmar won't travel that far.

in other developments I got the PacHy appraised today. CarMax appraisal was in person/definite. the others were online only with best-guess condition assessments.

Screenshot 2024-12-10 at 1.48.20 PM.png

as context for these numbers I paid $52,860.18 for this 2019 model year PacHy in November 2018, sales tax and title but not specific ownership tax/registration included. then I got $7,500 Fed and $6,000 CO for it at that tax year's filing: net cost $39,360.18.

if I can get, say, $21k for it private party then that'd be a depreciation of $3,060 per year, or $255/mo. in terms of miles traveled that'd be 29 cents/mi in depreciation (again including tax/title).

edit: listed private party for $22k on Pacifica Forums.

I pulled the old Shuttle apart tonight. And most of it was scrap. Things that I can reuse: XT 4 pots for the cargo bike, brake rotors, my trusty Ergon saddle. I listed the batteries on eBay, but local pickup only limiting. And that’s about it.

Wheels are true and have nice parts but are undeniably beat. Fork is beat. No one wants old Di2 and E8000 bits.

fellow Chase Sapphire Reserve holders, check your offers, as this one is pretty good: $200 off $400 or more at Backcountry.

hmm, what do I "need"?

I mounted up some Gravity Grabbers… and I don’t love them. My 108 mm skis seem secure enough and the skinnier skis the rest of the family skis will be fine, I’m sure.

But there’s not enough depth to them to grip my 116 mm skis securely. Had them fall forward as I went to take a photo, in fact.

there comes a time in one's life

when one decides extra vacuuming performance would actually improve things

(this was inspired by the carpet deep clean guy showing how much _extra_ junk his vacuum brought up relative to its base state serviced by our weak robo-vacs alone.)

Snau exists at the pass and in town

Garage: now with 100% less trash (still some smell—pickup was today) and 100% more new garage door opener on the depicted side. I need to pick up an extension cord and secure it to the ceiling. Will do that tomorrow and then reprogram remotes and keypads. Within spitting distance of $1,500 ultimately! So I could have gone with the local dude, go figure.

Elevation Pizza picked up on way out here. Happy kids. (Eldest and wife in Denver as they both have concerts this weekend. No skiing for them)

latest update in the hunt for my still-unexplained iron deficiency anemia's underlying cause: I'll get to swallow a camera a week from today for fun and profit

ok, for neither fun. nor profit. but it should yield some photos of the inside of my small bowel, a heretofore uncharted world

(and I don't need to stick around the endoscopy area while it goes on its incredible journey. so I'll show up, swallow it, venture elsewhere in the hospital and read a normal day's work. receiver gets returned.)

((camera itself is a one time use thing. no need to fish it out and return it, if you were curious about that aspect.))

Ski day. Note super low estimated range when it was truly frigid. Coming back from dinner at like 22F it was showing more like 175 miles.

Busy Forks range update:

Denver -> Tabernash == used 48% SOC

Tabernash -> Denver == used 33% SOC, this including detours to Powder7 and Raising Cane's + time "idling" at the former. (they swapped out Yuna's skis for another set of the exact same ski + different model bindings. the OG ones interacted with her Lange boots such that they clicked oddly and needed an extra manual tug on the rear to engage fully. her coach did not like this and they agreed it was not kosher.)

48 + 33 < 100, therefore range is sufficient for my uses, even in winter conditions, with winter-tire rolling resistance/HVAC use and all that. that'll be the baseline for assessing whether the ID.Buzz's range is adequate similarly.

(in reality most days we don't road trip there and back in a single day, and if not doing it in a day then we have the EVSE at the Tabernash house to use. and for the price of the Winter Park Resort garage one gets free L2 EVSE use, too. but not being able to do the round trip without charging would be a reason to not buy out the ID.Buzz lease with the idea of keeping it longer than 3 years.)

do I bring at least boots with me to jump up to Crystal for the day?

or do I just assume it'd be disappointing and skip it
