I got high yesterday... But that's not unusual per se.

Ahem I got high with my bike yesterday:

profile.png

Mud season is winding down and while I've done more road miles this year than any before, most of my rides have had < than 1000' of elevation but Sawtell climbs 3000' in 8 miles

Sunny day, perfect temps...

IMG_20230622_161705740_HDR_copy_2000x1125.jpg

And unfortunately a shit ton of atv (and a few cars) traffic kicking up dust

IMG_20230622_145606853_HDR_copy_1125x2000.jpg

It was 100% bike able, a bit steeper than railroad grade and a bit sandy / gravely at times.

Not going to lie, my quads and lungs were a bit confused by the elevation 10,000' and I walked the last 3 switchbacks and 1/2 mile.

Views were top notch, I could see the Grand Titties and RideIt, not to mention Henrys Lake and Lionhead / CDT

No pickles this time...
IMG_20230622_171948235_HDR_copy_2000x1125.jpg

5 Mountain goats frolicking in the sunshine, they looked phat and ready to calve

I think I must've pedaled a few dozen times in the downhill, but was mostly thinking about the thinness of my OEM brake pads and my tired forearms.

I may take the fatty next attempt as it would handle gravel better.

I got back to the house with enough daylight for a float...

All praise to the Solstice and light till 10.

Tons of newly orphaned juvenile swamp donkeys on the water this time of year

How are the trails? That’s Hilltop right?
It is. I haven't ridden it this year. I had a season pass last year from winning the winter DS race, but I only got to use it once before slicing my knee. The new bike park is in the middle of the pedal DH trails we built a few years ago, so it's an ultra-centralized location and they have a little pump track for kids too. They built a few more trails evidently, but nothing to write home about. Just cool options and a cool hang out spot. I rode "The Dome" trail and we got a new old-school steep trail coming off of that that I rode a few times. It's a much longer and steeper sustained DH than anything else around, but getting overgrown as hell so going to need some trimming. I've found Hilltop to be a convenient location to have a beer post-ride.

That’s cool! Nice to see things moving forward.

Rode a trail I have done before. Started in a different spot snd skipped some built part that is the worst trail ever. Finished on a flowy part but where need to put some speed in the bike so we burned the last energy. Cool hangout bike spot at the trailhead. 0.0 Heineken is surprisingly good.

Not good.
Not at all. One observation I had today was that the radiation was coming through even though there was no “sun”. The car was heating up as if it was in full sun. I noticed this the shop window I stopped at as well. If it was shady or overcast, these things would have been cool.Weird times.

Another mechanical ride. As soon as we started downhill, it was quite apparent that buddy had been sold the wrong upper headset pieces.

Thanks Giant and your stupid steertube sizes.

Re: Bugs

They have been brutal here as well.
I finally got smart and broke out the permetherin I spray my canoeing clothes with to spray my riding gear. Between that and some 20% picaridin for exposed skin we are now good.

Offered to spray some of my buddies gear, but so far no takers, but I do get to watch them continually bat at their clothing to try to clear the skitters.

Holy fack its hot here. Wore my TLD A1 this weekend, for the first time in a few seasons - I forgot how much those pads hold onto sweat.

More velcro rock goodness today.

I've ridden down this steep slab before, but man the last few visits I have rolled up and just said nope... need to get over that mental block.

what brand do you use?

what brand do you use?

Permetherin - Martins 10% mixed down to a 0.5-0.75% spray.

Permetherin spray in good for about 6 washes or 6 weeks. There was some clothing with it manufactured in that was supposed to be good for a season, but no idea what became of it.

Picaridin - 20% PiActive or Sawyer. I would assume that any 20% would be about the same protection wise, just feel and smell differences.
