    I've been reborn!

In the past six months, due to lack of time, and a lack of energy from training seven days a week for rowing, I haven't been riding much. In fact, I haven't been riding at all. But in the past couple days, I've found the energy to go riding, and I LOVE it. I can't believe I even left. It's...

Budget Bike Pics (no haters please)

I know I'm going to get some flak for this, but I say replace stuff when you break it. Riding a bike like that will increase your skill quite quickly. You'll learn to land a lot smoother (so as not to break parts). Other than that, it's a hell of a lot nicer than the bike I started on.

T.H.E. Rims, how much do they cost?

I can't remember which once it was, but one bike mag had to actually CUT the tires off when they tested the rims.  "And the number #1 most UNeconomical way to fix a flat....."

    can hardtails downhill

You're all bastards. Every single one of you. All the guys in my computer lab at school are now wondering why I'm rolling on the floor, laughing like a hyena. But yes, it's true, I was forced to buy my hardtail from a guy in a dark alley. Of course it cost twice what it does for you...

    Help With Single Speed!

The problem I found with using the derailleur set screws to set up a single speed is that the set screws rarely ever stay tight for very long. Mine would always back themselves out very slowly, and so I'd have to readjust my singlespeed every few rides. Not that it's a huge deal, but that's...

Welding on a disc adapter a good idea?

I think Brake Therapy Components (if they're still in business, haven't heard from them in awhile) makes a disc brake adatper that attaches to the V-brake post. Stay the hell away. V-brakes posts are designed to take the outward forces imposed by V-brakes, not the upward forces imposed by discs.

    V-brakes or discs?

I ride a lot of street and park, and I have dual discs. If you're grinding a lot, definitely think about Vs, even if your grinding on your driveside (that way you can learn to grind both sides). I use dual discs because i also make frequent trips up the mountain, and down steep rockfaces...

    pegs on 26

Even on a bike designed for pegs, like the new Banshee Scratch? That's actually where I'm considering going, I'm just trying to find out if there's a safe economical way to throw pegs on the current ride. Like crashedupderby said, I cant really afford another bike. I'm a student after all.

    pegs on 26

Sorry, let me clarify. I want to know, when grinding the flats on the 14mm axle of the rear hub to fit in the dropouts, do I grind just one side of the axle, to make it D-shaped in diameter, or both sides? I know you have to grind both the drive side and nondrive side, that's pretty obvious.

So if I wanted to grind the axle rather than the frame, would i grind both sides of the axle or just one?

Avid Speed Dial Levers (20 questions)

The Speed Dial Levers (any of them) make it easier to set up the Avid Mechs initially, but after that I haven't really used the Speed Dial feature. And the Avid Mechs are easy enough to set up without the Speed Dial. I guess it really comes down to whether or not you really care about saving...
