There seems to be little information on setting up the DHX3 on the team in this thread. Rebound and pre-load should be similar to the 5, but is the boost valve pressure comparable between the 2 considering the 5 has bottom out and propedal adjust?

Got a chance to put in some time on my Avy Tuned DHX 5 today. All I can say is wow. Bike is totally different in the bumps, and low speed has improved drastically. Craig hit the needle on the head.

I know it's blasphemy however has anyone tried the x-fusion HLR air on this bike? It should fit. I did see someone who shaved away a bit of the frame to fit the vivid air but don't want to do that as this may fit without any work.

I've had a vector air on my sunday for a couple months now. I like it. It fits into the lower link the same way as the vector coil I had before it, but I had to cut the link to fit that shock. The shock has to be removed to adjust spring pressure or rebound so the initial setup is pretty time consuming, but I spend more time playing with the bottom out and compression settings anyway, which are easily accessible.

Heres a pic that sort of shows the cutting I had to do on the lower link. This is the original 2008 link as far as I know.

that's good info there with pics. having to pull the shock to make rebound adjustments would be crappy in my mind. I guess it's a small price to pay once getting it set up and saving ~1lb of weight over a coil shock might sway my position.

My friend and I both run vector air HLR's on our Sundays. You can adjust the rebound with out removing the shock. Take a coat hanger and cut a small piece to use as a tool. You can use it or a something similar to turn the rebound knob by pushing on the holes that are on the for leverage. Problem solved.

Did you get the DW tune for your X-fusion? I plan on sending mine in over the winter.

I'll try to post a pic later tonight.

I didn't get the dw tune, I didn't know about that yet when I bought it. I'm not sure I'm going to at this point, I don't think there's anything I'd want to change about this shock.
I'll try that next time I want to adjust the rebound.

I have (2) Sundays, my medium has Xfusion Vector air HLR and a Boxxer WC. The large has a 2010 vector RC w/ 350lb spring and Totem soloair w/ avy cart.

My opinion after riding both this year:
-Even tho the vector RC is an older model and has very little adjustments compared to the Air HLR, it feels amazing, especially after tuning the piggyback reservoir's bottom out characteristics and air pressure
-I really like the lightweight air HLR and it feels "good" but the coil feels better (maybe because im used to coil on my other bikes) the air feels a tiny bit less responsive
-I will try the DW tune on the air HLR this year hopefully it will make it livelier

Nice to see someone else doing a similar test. How did you like the coil shock before you went to this air shock? how much air pressure are you running in the main can and in the reservoir? Where are your HSC/LSC settings that you like

i got a DW tune on an xfusion shock for my wife's bike (08 azure), that really made the bike come alive. I also have a giant trance w/ xfusion and without the DW tune the o2 RCX felt like garbage

allenM pointed out a piece of coat hanger is sufficient to reach the rebound adjuster, you can also use a spoke or welding rod. pretty easy and usually spend all the time adjusting compression and piggyback air pressure/bottom out settings anyway

I think I recognize your username, you just sold a 6point frame to a friend of mine.
The coil vector felt great. I just wanted to try a more progressive shock to help with the big hits, and drop some weight.
Im going off my memory here, but I believe Im running 115psi in the main can, 250 in the reservoir w/ the volume about 2/3 of the way closed, LSC is almost open, HSC is about midway. Rebound is maybe 5-6 clicks in from open.

Do you know what they change in doing the dw tune? And they reccomended the dw link tune for your maestro linkage? I was under the impression the leverage ratio curve was very different for the maestro.

ok guys i need some help,
its time for a new headset but i have no idea about them,
ive got an 08 sunday team and im running boxxers, what sort of headset will fit?, i dont know what all those silly numbers mean, and i would like it if i gould get a -1 reducer cups as well
any help would be greatly apriciated

You have a standard 1.5, or 49mm, headtube and a 1 1/8" steer tube. You have plenty of options. Works Components makes angled headsets in 1, 1.5, and 2 degree options.

I think that's actually a 2006 (graphics and paint are 06) and thus maybe not 0.9lbs lighter, as that was only 2007+ frames? The 07+ frames also had the F7 linkage which that frame doesn't. Unless the 06 factory frame was the same weight as 07's.

what is that about the 2007 + frames were lighter?
maybe it's the F7 links made it lighter?
so a 2006 with the new links= light as the 2007 + ?

No, the front triangles are lighter, the rear triangle may be to. I would guess the 07 linkages are a little heavier, but Ive never weighed them. From 07 on all the frames weighed about the same, and were .9 lbs lighter than the 05-06 taiwan made frames. But noone seems to know how much the 05-06 US made frames weigh, so you may be right.

It's not the linkages, 07+ front triangles are 0.9lbs lighter (they have lighter forged uprights). Swingarms are all the same weight to my knowledge.

I am not sure about the 05-06 US frames though.

Hey guys,

Love my sunday. Happy with how I have the forks set up, just wanting to get the DHX5 working a bit better - spent all my money on a 125cc pit bike for riding around our backyard so the RC4 will have to wait a few weeks. I weigh 75 with gear, running a purple spring in the 40s and a 300pd spring on the DHX5. I have tried the base settings from this thread but wasnt that happy with it. Are you guys running anything different? In terms of ProPedal (is that basically LSC?) bottom out (basically HSC?) and rebound/air pressure.

Just spent nearly week at Whistler in the park on my Sunday, 6 days straight on the bike with no parts issues besides a lil play in my link, its an 06, so I will be upgrading here soon.

Just before I left I had the DHX 5 shock sent to Avalanche and modded/tuned, ran it out of the box with some small adjustments to rebound and the Propedal knob which is the LSC know now. Was gonna try a RC4 comparison, but never got around to it.

Broke my fibula on the last run of the day, on the last day of the trip as luck would have it, 6 weeks recovery time. Will give me a lil time to find and source a new link since I need hardware/mounting stuff too.

I still love and ride my 2007 MKIII
I just bought a new fox van rc coil rear shock.
but dont like how it feels... it feels like it doesnt react to bumps at all ...
maybe I need the dw-link tune for it?
does anyone here knows exactly what the tune is?
is it just changing the shims to let the comp and rebound work faster?

Just things that are meant to be used on the bottom of chairs, from the local hardware store. Got some genuine 40 bumpers now aha, they were just temporary.

FYI, on fork bumpers for ih sunday, place it on the upper part of the stanchion, the bummpers hitting the top tube of the frame, the bat like top tube is thick walled compared to the lower gusset, which ussually dents when crashed hard.

ODI sells fork bumpers with clamps to prevent sliding. they have bumpers for 40s and boxxers.

I have problems losening the rear axle from the lower link. It´s stuck, I think I´m doing it right but maybe someone can give me some instructions to follow..

Any ideas?

probably stack if used loctite on the axle,
use a long bolt, screw it in a bit, and hit it with an hammer. it will pop out of the other side.

If anyone needs 05/06 links let me know I have 2 or 3 sets of them in a bag that I'll recycle for scrap aluminum or send out to someone....

I'll have to check but I think I have the red lower link as well pre 07.

People were either good enough to hook me up or I pulled them off my projects, so if needed let me know.

guys, is the part 21 pressed in the bearings? i unscrewed one of №6 screws (can't unscrew the second one, coz it rotates with the axle 21), but i can't push out the 21 axle. even when i tried to knock it out. maybe it's conic or asymmetric a bit?

It not pressed. It should slide right off if you remove the screw and bearing cover on one of the any 2 sides. Maybe the shaft expanded due to excessive/over tightening. Just give it some small taps using a rubber mallet. Check which side will have small movements and continue tapping from there. If this fails, whack it out until the bearing is removed. Hope this helps.

i knocked in pretty strongly, but it won't move at all( i will try again later

looks like previous owner didn't care about bike at all. the screw that i unscrewed looked pretty rusty. not really worn-out, but it was obvious that the suspension isn't the thing, the owner took care about
